I was helping my students get services before I knew what was available for my own son.

Hi, I’m Maureen Welch.

As a special education teacher, I helped young adults with disabilities prepare for life after school. Yet I was still learning about services for my own son, including a waiver I hadn’t known could help him.

I know what it’s like to fit one more email into the end of a day already full of caregiving, appointments, and school. I also know how much it means when someone takes the time to explain what you can do next.

That experience led me to create Navigating Disability Colorado.

Today, I share what I’ve learned as a parent, educator, and independent advocate, and bring families together so we can learn from one another.

My hope is that you leave a conversation with a clearer next step and someone to turn to when the next question comes up.
